The day school was held at Abergavenny and well organised by the Abergavenny Local History Society. Gwyn Jones gave an illustrated lecture on his research subject of early Abergavenny. After lunch the large gathering met in the Church to study the magnificent tombs, and was then split into smaller groups for the guided walk around the town. This was very thoughtfully arranged, with an expert from the Abergavenny Local History Society at each location to point out the interesting features. A most informative and enjoyable day. The Annual General Meeting held at Raglan in November was quite well attended. An interesting talk was given by Mr. Johnathan Parkhouse, on the work of the Glamorgan and Gwent Archaeological Trust. The Gwent Local History Council held a special meeting at the end of November to discuss the Gwent Local History Award. Unfortunately no entries suitable for the Award were received in 1985: but a medallion has been designed and struck by Mr. Kenneth Budd and it is hoped that this can be awarded during 1985. Nominations for the Award will only be accepted from Members of the Council, so would everyone please make sure that any suitable entries are brought to the attention of Council Members through their own local history societies, before the 30th June. Readers may have noticed a bias towards the history of Abergavenny in the pages of the last few Gwent Local History journals; and in this issue there are again two articles about different aspects of that town.
