His first extensive purchase of Welsh Books was on April 7th, 1875, followed in September and October of the same year by the acquisition of a large number of eighteenth century classics. Williams at a bookstall in Carnarvon for four pence, and he always referred to this as his luckiest find. The sixth part was previously unknown to book collectors, though it was of great importance, as it proved that Williams was not the author of several well-known hymns which had been attributed to him. Mr. Jones was probably the leading authority of his time on Welsh Hymnology, and to him is due the credit of settling many knotty points as to the authorship of hymns. He had in his library over a hundred different collec- tions and editions of Welsh hymns printed in the eighteenth century, and some of them are possibly still unique, in spite of the extraordinary impetus given to Welsh book collecting within the last ten years.
