encouraging. The raffle raised over £ 100, thanks, as usual, to the greatly appreciated efforts of Bob and Claire Counsell. To mark the bicentenary of the founding of The Cambrian newspaper in Swansea in 1804, this year's Autumn Day School will have a journalistic theme and will be held on Saturday 13 November 2004. Another date for your diary is 6 May 2004 when the second Henry Loyn Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor David Bates, the recently appointed Director of the Institute of Historical Research. and formerly of the University of Wales, Cardiff where he was a colleague of Henry. The title of Professor Bates's lecture is: William the Conqueror and his wider Western World. For further details of venue etc. contact Liz Walker, History Department Secretary. Cardiff University, on 02920 874252. This year's Morgannwg includes contributions from two of the speakers at the 2002 Autumn Day School, whose theme was Chapels. Mr Neville Granville and Dr E. Wyn James. It is also pleasing to record that members and others have responded positively to the Editors' plea in Morgannwg XL VI for contributions to the Notes and Queries section of the journal. This year's selection is particularly heartening and we hope that such progress will be sustained. As always, we are keen to encourage the submission of new articles for inclusion in the journal. The annual subscription is now £ 10.00 (from 1 January 2003). Those members who have not yet increased their payments are asked to do so as a matter of urgency.
