It is with pleasure that I am able to present the second volume of the Journal after many delays. I must apologise not only for the length of time it has taken for this work to appear, but also for any inconsistencies in style and other errors which it undoubtedly contains. While I have endeavoured to impose some editorial unity there have been instances where, for whatever reasons, I judged it better to leave an author's style unaltered. Mr. John Owen resigned the post of Secretary in October 1985, having overseen the production of the first Journal, and while Mrs. Susan Comont valiantly stepped into the breach, she departed from this area in Spring 1986. 1 take this opportunity to commend to members their excellent work on behalf of the Society. The work has gone on, however, and we have produced some memorable lectures and excursions during 1986- 87. Membership of the Society is slowly rising, and it is to be hoped that future events, publications, and publicity will increase our numbers. If you are not already a member, may I request that you consider membership, which at £ 3 per annum ( £ 5 for family or institutional membership) represents remarkably good value. May I also record our grateful thanks to those listed as sponsors of this publication, which will further the cause of local history in this area. As we will only be able to publish when sufficient material is received, may I encourage those who have an interest in Pembrokeshire's past to share their knowledge with others by submitting articles for publication.
